Social-Emotional Developmental Tools
Establishing a Safe and Supportive Learning Environment
At the beginning of each school year, the cooperative culture component of the
Success Network,with SFAF's guidance, designs a schoolwide behavior-management plan based on the needs of each school. Data, including discipline referrals, suspension records, and teacher surveys, are used to assess behavior hot points and determine appropriate interventions for improvement. This approach includes:
- behavior tracking mechanisms
- proactive Behavior Management
- behavior management workshops
- end-of-year data reviews to update plans
In addition to designing and implementing a schoolwide behavior-management plan, the cooperative culture component oversees the implementation of Getting Along Together.
Getting Along Together
Getting Along Together is Success for All’s K–8 social problem-solving process. Introduced early in the school year, these classroom resources teach children to think critically, productively solve problems, and work cooperatively in teams.
How is Getting Along Together structured?
Through literature-based lessons that introduce strategies and skills for conflict resolution, teachers guide students in understanding how to work together effectively. By setting expectations and rewarding positive peer interaction, student-selected issues are addressed throughout the school year.
Because all staff members, including principal, teachers, cafeteria staff, and office staff, are trained and involved in the Getting Along Together process, it promotes an effective, consistent structure that the Success Network reinforces throughout the year.
What supports are provided to teachers?
Each teacher receives a teacher manual and classroom kit that includes:
- three interactive, literature-based units that introduce skills and strategies;
- resources for coaching individual students to resolve specific conflict, conduct class meetings, set positive expectations, reward peer interaction, and address class-selected issues as a group throughout the year; and
- ongoing supports for refinement and reinforcement of learned skills throughout the rest of the school year with weekly class meetings, additional instruction and coaching, and Peace Path and Think-It-Through strategy sheets.
